House League hockey is designed to provide players with opportunities to learn, develop, and enjoy the game in a positive environment. To support well-rounded player development, coaches are encouraged to rotate players through various positions throughout the season, including forward, defense, and goaltender, when appropriate and when the player expresses an interest in participating in those positions.
The goal of BRYHA’s House League program is to allow players to gain experience in all aspects of the game while discovering the positions they enjoy most. No player shall be permanently assigned to a position solely for the convenience of the team.
Coaches will make every reasonable effort to provide equal playing time to all players throughout the season, while taking into consideration attendance, player safety, and game circumstances. House League emphasizes player development, participation, and enjoyment of the game over competitive results.
BRYHA believes that providing players with opportunities to experience multiple positions and meaningful ice time contributes to the development of hockey skills, hockey knowledge, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.

Travel team selection does not require a formal tryout. However, player positions and playing time, including goaltender, will be determined by the coaching staff based on the best interests of the team as a whole. In making these decisions, coaches will consider factors including, but not limited to, player development, team needs, safety, skill level, attendance, attitude, and the overall function of the team.
BRYHA coach’s goal is to place players in positions that support both individual growth and the overall development of the team. Coaching decisions regarding player positions and playing opportunities will be made in the best interests of the team while maintaining a focus on long-term player development and success.
